What you better do us begin rearranging your priorities.Cobra is not cheap insurance, the employer can charge as much as 103% for insurance benefits for a former employee.
You can buy health insurance much cheaper than that. I would not expect much from our government in the way of cheaper insurance. First they are moving way too fast, and the health insurance business is very complex, not because of private business, but because of government regulation.
What is most likely going to happen is that Health insurance will end up being mandatory to have for each citizen with penalties based income for not having it.
No one knows yet. It might not even pass the estimated cost of his new health care plan is over 1.6 TRILLION in new taxes. There is no mention of the cost to consumers, but it will not be free.

You may want to get a quote for individual health insurance and compare your current options. If the Obama plan is better switch to it IF it becomes available.

Officially, they say it will cost $1.6 Trillion. However, that is less than is spent on health care annually in the US as it is. By the time they muck about with a huge new bureaucracy, layers of govt employees to review and approve treatment, pay the bills, etc, it is going to cost at least double current prices, and some economists calculate it will at least triple current costs.
As for “taxing the rich” to pay for your health care, there are not enough “rich” people rich enough that if the govt took every cent of theirs that it would be enough to pay for health care at today’s prices.
You think COBRA is too costly? That’s a govt-mandated program! What on earth makes you think the govt, which causes the high cost of health care, can make it any cheaper than COBRA is now? COBRA will look like the last great bargain on earth if BO’s “reform” is passed.
