healthplans.my-age.net – my family have this health insurance. It is affordable and has good coverage for dental issues.
Hmmm – tough question. If you’ve already been diagnosed with a condition of some sort (the MRI is needed for something, right?), then it may be hard for you to get coverage on yourself. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean you can’t get coverage on your kids. Here’s a few thoughts on your situation:
1. Call your state insurance commissioner’s office and see if they have a “children’s insurance plan/pool” for kids (in Georgia, for example, there’s “Peachcare for Kids,” which offers really good coverage at a really low price). While talking w/ the Commissioner’s office, also explain your specific situation.
2. If your state doesn’t have a kids’ plan or if you don’t “qualify” for it, then shop for coverage on your kid’s first (and probably yourself, too – hey, it doesn’t hurt to check around). Visit NAHU.org, which is the professional association of guys like me who specialize in health insurance, and find a local broker (www.nahu.org), or visit my website and run a few quotes yourself.
3. If you have access to a group health plan (like at your job or your spouse’s, if you’re married) then you should be able to get coverage there.
TIP 1: you can buy a plan with a higher deductible (like $2,500 or more) to reduce the premium and STILL have coverage for the things you’ll probably use most, like doctor visits & drug charges.
TIP 2: try to stick with “name brand” insurance companies (like BCBS, Aetna, Humana, United Healthcare, etc.). There are a lot of other plans around that are often cheaper, but “you get what you pay for,” meaning they may do pretty well for everyday medical costs, but if something big & expensive happens (like, say, an accident where there’s $30,40,50,000+ in health expenses) you may have some difficulty collecting from them (do an online “search” for any of those “other” plans you may be considering and read the experiences that other folks have had with them).
Hope this helps a bit – have a swell day!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Every health insurance application asks for your medical history, and for your disclosure of known medical conditions and pending treatments. Often, these are either excluded (”pre-existing conditions”) or they are grounds for not issuing a policy.
Log on to http://www.cinergyhealth.com and they may be able to help you.
I am not associated with the company in any way, but saw their ad on TV. They say they cover pre-existing conditions.
Best wishes.

If you already need an MRI then it’s too late for insurance. Insurance covers unexpected illness and injury. Call your state for a high risk plan.
